1940s Sports
What were the most notable 1940s sports moments?
At first pass, it would appear the most notable sporting events of the 1940s were the ones that didn't occur at all. With a good portion of the world at war, many world-famous sporting events were cancelled. The Olympics (Winter and Summer games cancelled for 1940 and 1944). Golf's four major tournaments were impacted — The Masters (cancelled 1943-1945), U.S. Open Championship (cancelled 1942-1945), The Open Championship (cancelled 1940-1945), PGA Championship (cancelled 1943). Other events were impacted as well and we'll write about them in the weeks to come.
